I didn’t get too much work done on curating my closet and developing outfit styles, etc. thanks to a winter storm that hit us overnight and dumped a ton of snow in our driveway. After shovelling out, I sat down and was perusing Instagram when I came across some people doing the #winter10x10 challenge. What this is, if you haven’t heard of it, is a challenge where you choose 10 items of clothing to make 10 outfits for 10 days. I thought it would be a fun exercise and given I do love me a challenge, I figured I’d give it a shot.
As it turned out, I currently have 11 items selected. I’m trying to decide whether to nix the skirt or the sleeveless turtleneck. I think the skirt will be the one to go since, given the dumping of snow, my footwear will consist of my mukluks which don’t look that great paired with a skirt.
My selections for the #winter10x10 challenge are:
- 2 pair of work pants/trousers
- 1 pair of blue jeans
- 1 button up shirt
- 1 sleeveless turtleneck
or 1 red skirt
- 2 long sleeved shirts
- 3 sweaters
Given I had yet to get dressed when I decided to do the challenge, I’m marking today as Day 1 and will end on the 17th – the day before my birthday.
Also, I haven’t been counting my footwear in with my wardrobe capsules and I won’t be counting them as part of the 10 items in this challenge. I probably should, but I’m not there yet. I did gut my fall/winter footwear collection and donated 1/3 of my boot/shoe collection during my closet purge, leaving myself with 5 pairs of boots (minus the winter mukluks), 2 pair of shoes (one pair of which is kept at work) and my workout/running shoes. For the next 10 days, when I’m not sporting my semi-fashionable mukluks as I tromp to/from work or the coffee shop, I’ll be wearing the black pumps at work and possibly my most durable pair of casual boots that can withstand a little salt and slush.
It will be interesting to see how difficult it will be to do this. Will I get bored with my options? Will I be tempted to cheat and pull something else out of my closet instead? Will my choices prove to not be conducive to the weather?
Stay tuned – I’ll give a little update on how things went at the end of the challenge.
